I’m currently playing through 7th stand user R on my android phone that’s definitely low end, and when i try using a sf2 file that is too big (30-50-100ish) as my soundfont, the music slows down considerably and sounds like it’s lagging hard thus making the music pretty hard to listen to. Does this mean my device is too weak for the soundfont and i need to find a different soundfont?
Yes. Using big soundfont files is not a good idea as it needs to be kept in memory, so using heavy soudfont files is often not a good idea.
We have on our wiki a page where you can various soundfonts, if it can help in any way.
Though it surprises me that it does random lagging. I would expect that only the initial loading lags.
Android has enough RAM to keep the entire soundfont in memory.
Can you share a link to the soundfont you used?
This is one of the sf2 that lags, hope I’m not accidentally commiting some sort of crime. Might be because it’s used for a massage (Multitrack Analysis/SynthesiS for Annotation, auGmentation and Evaluation) so the sf2 is made differently. Hope I’m not accidentally doing some sort of crime, I’m pretty sure merlin gold is free to use but I can’t find a definitive answer.
Upon further playing I’ve found any skills that (seemingly) have a lot sounds also lag the music.
Well the origin of most SF2 files (and their samples) is often unclear.
But don’t worry.
Thats in general some performance issues on Android due to how loading of files works their.
What you could try is putting the game inside a ZIP archive as this uses a different way to do file input. (or if it already is try extracting it but imo this should be slower)
When i unload the game into a folder it’s slightly better than zipped, and i mean very slightly, maybe 10% less. I think my phone may just be not strong enough for these midi files. Thanks for helping though, i appreciate it.
