What does LCF stand for?

I’ve recently been reading about all the great work done by this community, and I’ve been able to find answers to most of my questions so far, but one thing still has me puzzled - what does LCF stand for?

My understanding is that many of the files used by RPG Maker 2003 (and similar programs in its family) use file types like .lmu (“LCF Map Unit”), .ldb (“LCF Database”), .lmt (“LCF Map Tree”), .lsd (“LCF Save Data”) and so on. These things are all pretty well described around here, but I haven’t seen LCF defined anywhere on the internet.

It’s not really important to my work that I understand what this acronym means, but at this point, I’m very curious. I even made this account just to ask!

If anybody can fill me in on this, I’d really appreciate it. Thanks for your time.

Welcome Smitty, that’s a good question. It seems that it could mean “Lucifer”, as a codename for the RPG Maker 2000 project. Previous RPG Maker versions had another hell of a name: “Dante” (RPG Maker Dante98 for NEC PC-9800, RPG Maker Super Dante for Super Famicon), so the LCF as Lucifer hypothesis makes sense. There is a movie from 1999, directed by Roman Polański called “The Ninth Gate” and starred by Johnny Depp, based on the 1993 novel “The Club Dumas” from Arturo Pérez-Reverte where it gets relevant the Lucifer signature in a book uses the three letters LCF. Hope this helps, regards and thank you, too.

That’s hilarious! It sounds like a better theory than anything I’ve encountered so far - maybe we’ll get clarification from one of the tool’s developers someday. Thanks for getting back to me so quickly.
